If you are a fan of the DJ-recognized headphone label V-MODA, you’ll be happy to note the company has recently lowered the prices of their latest wireless releases V-MODA Crossfades 2 as well as the Forza Series and REMIX Bluetooth speaker. “Sale V-MODA Crossfades 2 Wireless, Forza”

New Pricing: Sale V-MODA Crossfades 2 Wireless, Forza

Although it is the tail end of summer, V-MODA is lowering the price of their Forza, Forza Metallo, Forza Metallo Wireless and REMIX Bluetooth speaker to match that of their Supersonic Spring Sale while the popular Crossfade 2 Wireless will also see a discounted price.

The Crossfades 2 Wireless – available in black, rose gold, and white – are an on-ear wireless headphone. Fit with memory foam ear  cushions and 50 mm drivers, the headphone provides comfortable wearing for up to 14 hours. Moreover, the frame is collapsible and small enough to store in just about any suitcase, backpack, and messenger bag. Originally retailing for $330, the headphones will now sit at a more comfortable price (at least for my wallet) at $279.99 on Amazon.

As for the Forza series, the Forza Metallo Wireless is a Bluetooth-equipped neckband that provides the signature V-MODA sound signature in a slimmer, portable frame and it supplies up to 10 hours of music playback. The price has decreased from $170 to $129.99 and is available at V-MODA.

The wired Forza Metallo sees a price drop of $30 and retails for $99.99 on V-MODA. The Forza wired sports earphone is fit with a sports fin to secure the buds while you bench press, lift, and stretch. Forza usually retails for $100 and has dropped to $80. Catch this sale at V-MODA.

Massdrop paired with MEE Audio for a unique drop on the popular and exclusive shopping platform. Meet Massdrop MEE Audio Planamic IEMs.

Massdrop MEE Audio Planamic IEMs

Touting a “new kind of driver,” Massdrop and MEE Audio promise a “new kind of sound.” The Planamic IEMs are designed differently, with neither a hybrid or a multi-driver configuration, but rather a completely new system developed in-house by MEE Audio and tweaked with feedback from the Massdrop community. Planamic in-ear monitors feature 10 mm drivers with single-sided magnets that deliver a flatter wavefront of sound to your ears.  MEE Audio The team also add that the flat impedance means the frequency response won’t vary wildly depending on the source. This means your mobile devices, tables, and the like are perfectly suitable to drive these earphones.

What does this mean for the sound? Well, combining the benefits of planar-magnetic and dynamic drivers, this design yields a warm, coherent, impactful, rich, sound signature with a different timbre than what you’d get from dynamic or balanced-armature IEMs.

As for the build, these earphones draw upon the characteristics of other MEE Audio’s IEMS showcasing a universal fit ear bud housing and includes both braided and mic equipped cables. Unfortunately, the units aren’t fit with MMCX connectors, but rather a classic 2-pin (0.78mm pins) connector.

If interested, head over to Massdrop and grab Massdrop MEE Audio Planamic IEMs for $149.99 in either blue or black. Be advised, Massdrop is more reputable than a crowdfunding platform, but the company explicitly states at this time the product is still being manufactured and is entering production, leading me to believe it’s basically a prototype at this point. However, to make you feel somewhat more comfortable customers receive Massdrop first-run production perks. In this case, those perks include a Q&A with MEE audio’s Mike Jones and $10 credit toward your next Massdrop purchase.

Orders are expected to be ship Oct 5, 2018 by Massdrop.

The third generation of HIFIMAN HE1000 high-end headphones are here. Introducing HIFIMAN HE1000se.

New Release HIFIMAN HE1000se is the Third Gen HE1000

The new HIFIMAN HE1000se is a refined rendition of the already superb HE1000 V2. This third iteration headphone makes good on its predecessor by increasing the sensitivity to provide superior performance when paired with “every imaginable source.” Moreover, this source can range from  audiophile-grade source components to high-resolution digital audio players – even tablets and smartphones.

While HIFIMAN’s HE1000 V2 is highly regarded by the audiophile community, HIFIMAN founder and CEO Dr. Fang Bian sought to HIFIMAN founder and CEO Dr. Fang Bian is committed to improving upon HIFIMAN’s most celebrated products subsequently selecting one of the most high-performing headphones in the market at its price range. That being said, HIFIMAN HE1000se raises the sensitivity from 91 to 96 dB the HE1000se is much easier to drive across various sources. It also features neodymium magnets that increase efficiency, lower distortion, and vibrate faster. That’s also due in part to the diaphragm being only one nanometer yielding faster response and a high dynamic range. Together these elements create a driver that makes “recordings come to life, satisfying the most demanding listeners, no matter the genre, from soft acoustic music to high energy rock ‘n roll, and every genre in between presenting every sonic detail for a more compelling performance.” I like the sound of that!

As far as the frame goes, HIFIMAN HE1000se features the same open-back build with a special patented “window shade” that minimizes distortion by avoiding unwanted reflections and vibrations. As a result, the soundstage is much wider, with more vivid spacial recreation. Also, if you recall, the V2 was primarily modified to provide more comfort and better support for wearers. Well, HIFIMAN HE1000se is said to be exceptionally comfortable, thanks to a specially designed headband that features a steady arch structure for stability and durability. As far as looks are concerned, this headphone is detailed with a new matte finish and ebony wood trim for a “smart, attractive touch that enhances the overall design.”

HIFIMAN HE1000se will retail for a projected price of $3499 and is available for pre-order at Audio46.

Orders are expected to ship in September.

A new release out of Hong Kong High End Audio Visual Show 2018 over the past weekend, is a new take on an old favorite. The HIFIMAN HE6se adds increased comfort and an aesthetic upgrade to a legendary favorite.

New Release HIFIMAN HE6se is an Upgraded HE6

Looking to improve upon their most celebrated products, HIFIMAN Founder and CEO Dr. Fang Bian selected the HE6 which is considered one of the market’s most natural and transparent headphones. HIFIMAN HE6se features a redesigned headband that is lighter, more adjustable for increased comfort, and a natural fit for hours of uninterrupted listening. The ear cups also received an aesthetically pleasing upgrade with a new gun metal gray satin finish. The connectors have are angled at 10 degrees to take stress off of the pressure points associated with straight-angled connectors.

As for the sound, the new HIFIMAN HE6se maintains the original model’s exceptional sonic characteristics, more specifically the wide, natural soundstage, clean imaging, and depth across a frequency response of 8Hz-65,000 Hz. Operating at an impedance of 50 ohms, the HE6se headphone requires a powerful amplifier to drive it, so orders include the HE6 adapter with the new model, making it easy to connect the HE6se to nearly any currently available power amplifier. That was nice of HIFIMAN!

“For many music lovers, the HE6 was their introduction to true high-performance audio from a headphone, and it remains one of our most successful products to date,” said Dr.  Bian. “But I can’t help looking at our biggest sellers without thinking about what we can do a little different that will make them noticeably better.”

HIFIMAN HE6se costs $1799 and is available for pre-order at Audio46.

Cowin E7 headphones are all the rage on Amazon. MajorHiFi has got our hands on the upgraded Cowin E7 PRO wireless noise-cancelling headphones to see how they stack-up. COWIN E7 PRO Review.

Review of COWIN E7 PRO

Out The Box

These headphones come inside of a pretty durable case. My only vice is that the headphones and case smell like industrial glue. I’m hoping the smell fades with time.

Build & Design

Cowin E7 PRO is an over-ear headphone. The cups are circular and quite large so they cover the entire ear. The ear cushions and headband are soft enough to be worn for a few hours on end. The entire unit doesn’t have the sturdiest feel, but the headphones were able to withstand me stretching the ear cups apart and swiveling the ear cups a little on the hard side. The exterior of the ear cups feature a brushed metal look. The left ear cup is built with a micro USB port for charging the unit while the right ear cup features aux port and controls.

Features

There is a single triangle shaped button which features a “+” for turning up the volume and switching forward a track, a “-” symbol to turn down the volume and skip back a track, as well as an “o” button to pair ready the device for pairing and taking calls. The location of these symbols takes a little getting used to especially since the symbols aren’t raised and a long press of the “+” and “-” is used to adjust the volume and I’m used to that function switching back and forth between tracks. If you press a little too short of time to adjust the volume the headphone will switch the track. Bummer, but not a total There’s also a button which toggles between turning the headphone on, turning the Bluetooth on, and turning the noise-cancelling on. The noise cancelling does a decent job of tuning out air conditioning units and similar noises for the price. I’d prefer the ANC to be a little stronger, however this headphone provides a decent amount at price tag well under $100.

Connectivity, Battery Life

The headphones maintained a solid connection to my headphones right around the 30 ft mark so no complaints there. The headphones tout a 30 hour battery life when using both Bluetooth and noise-cancellation. It takes about 4 hours to fully re-juice the headphones.

Sounds

Lows – Delivers well into the lows into the sub-bass. This was a pleasant surprise from a $77 wireless noise-cancelling headphone. The mids are where I expect to get the most out of my music and Cowin E7 delivers on this section with energy. It’s lively and quite full, especially for the price. The highs are a bit controversial. The highs become tinny as the frequency increases. At times, I couldn’t tell if the tinniness I heard was actually tinniness or an audible hiss. Either way, higher pitched vocals, synthesizers, and treble claps can get a little rough in the upper registers. As for the soundstage, it isn’t the widest, but it is wider than expected and provides some nice spacing between the sub-bass, bass, and mids.

Overall, these headphones provide what most other brands can’t and that’s a working wireless, noise-cancelling headphone for $77.  You really can’t beat the price point and it delivers on some good quality sound, comfort, and features.

If interested, grab Cowin E7 PRO for $76.49 on Amazon.

Wireless has been around for ages, but with the recent widespread popularity of truly wireless earbuds I’ve found that many consumers don’t know what they’re getting in to – expecting a perfectly working product for a fairly new technology. So, we thought we’d break it down in our “2018 Truly Wireless Earbuds Guide.”

2018 Truly Wireless Earbuds Guide: How To Buy & Need To Knows

Technology, especially new technology isn’t perfect. If we’ve learned anything from failed iOS updates, there is always room for improvement. However, you shouldn’t let that deter you from getting more technologically advanced. Some of these may sound familiar as they are in line with a normal headphone guide and other tips may be wireless refreshers, regardless these are all important need to knows when buying your next wireless can.

2018 Truly Wireless Earbuds Guide – UNDERSTAND that a wireless connection is NOT perfect. Before you even THINK about getting a wireless earbud, let alone truly wireless earbud, you NEED to understand that a wireless connection will never be as solid as your wired connection. Your WiFi isn’t perfect. It drops out from time to time and so will your wireless earbuds. If you live in the busiest of cities (i.e. New York) there’s a good chance from time to time your connection may flicker… for just a moment. That’s okay. The antenna in these teeny tiny earbuds are also teeny tiny so the connection can only be so strong. If it drops out every five seconds and every single time you turn it on, then you might want to consider returning them.

2018 Truly Wireless Earbuds Guide – KNOW that Truly Wireless Earbuds are ALL in beta testing.  Almost every brand in the market right now is on their first generation product. And like most first gen and even second gen products that means you should be ready for technical glitches, like the signal dropping out, earbuds not pairing to your device, and so forth. If this happens, don’t return them right away. Instead proceed to point #5, be patient. And then if all else fails, take ’em back!

2018 Truly Wireless Earbuds Guide – BUY a reputable brand. Reputable brands have more to lose when it comes to failed products and recalls. For that reason, it’s better to throw down in favor of a reputable brand. There are some companies in recent years who have gained notoriety in the TWS market because they’re taking the time to build a reputation as a sole TWS manufacturer (i.e. Bragi). These brands also have a reputation to uphold so I wouldn’t rule them out either. They are worth a try. A Chinese make on Amazon that’s $50 may also sound too good to be true and that’s because it probably is. You could invest in one of these for a cheap trial run, but don’t set your expectations very high.

2018 Truly Wireless Earbuds Guide – Make SURE the buds FIT your ears. While all TWS options are made for universal fit, that doesn’t mean they’ll fit your ears perfectly. You know, like when you purchase one-size fits all pants and they don’t fit. They are kind of like that. There are also a few different types of fits when it comes to TWS; Ergonomic earpiece that nestles itself inside of your ear. It is sans hooks and stabilizes itself by literally wedging itself inside the conch of your ear (JBL Free). Then there’s the earbud with a sport fin fit (Sony WF-1000X). There’s also the earbud that hangs out of the ear fit (Apple AirPods). and the occasional earbud that hooks over the entire ear fit (PSB M4U TW1). P.S. There’s also the possibility of your earbuds possessing one or more of these features. Regardless, make sure these buds fit comfortably and you can withstand wearing them for awhile.

2018 Truly Wireless Earbuds Guide – BE Patient. When it comes to technology everyone has become such an Impatient Isaac, expecting it to work right away. To get the most out of your buds, be patient and actually read the quick start guide and more detailed handbook to understand exactly how to pair and work your earbuds. Some brands require you to pair both earpieces to one another before pairing them to your phone while others require pairing one earpiece to your device and then pairing it to the master. Once you’re familiar, popping them in and rocking out will be simple.

I hope these tips help you all better understand the truly wireless earbuds market. Please note, these tips can be applied to wireless earbuds as well. If you have any questions regarding “2018 Truly Wireless Earbuds” let us know down below.

Not all audiophiles have the cash to stash for high-end headphones or systems. So we scoured the web and compiled a list of some of the best knock-off headphones and alternatives to their more pricey counterparts.

Wireless, Noise-Cancelling (Bose, Sony)

Anker Soundcore Space NC Best Knock-Off Headphones

If you’re in search of a wireless, noise-cancelling headphone a-la Bose QC 35 or Sony WH-1000X but at a fraction of the $350 price tag, look no further than Anker Soundcore Space NC. This headphone is hands-down a cheap and impressive alternative for a mere $100. It’s built with a sturdy metal headband and ear cups covered in a plush synthetic leather. The noise-cancelling technology is stronger than expected and does a great job of lowering the volume on your surroundings. The ANC also one ups other ANC headphones in that the NC can be used when the headphone is wired or wireless. There are also touch controls to take calls and change your music. As for sound, it’s also impressive at the $100 price point. The low end is natural and energetic. The mids have a tiny bit of distortion but it’s nothing to cry over. Plus, there are headphones double the price that distort. As for the highs, I’ll quote my co-worker “buttery smooth vocals” and “pleasing instrumentation.” Yep, all that for $100. Read a review on Anker Soundcore Space NC headphones here and if interested, buy them on Amazon.

Truly Wireless (Apple AirPods)

Apple AirPods Knock-Offs, HBQ i7 Twins True Wireless Earphones

If you’ve wanted Apple AirPods, there’s a rather popular knock-off that you can pick up for chump change – like $30 instead of $159. These truly wireless buds are called HBQ i7 Twins True Wireless Earphones. and they provide about 4-5 hours of run time over Bluetooth 4.2. The buds feature a multifunction button on the outer rim of the head. The buds charge using a unique dual USB cable which looks odd because you’ve probably never seen anything like it. However, the cable charges both earpieces at the same time, hence the funky set-up. Mashable (who is also selling these buds on their website) claims, “They’re perfect for your trip to the gym (with noise reduction and echo cancellation technology), your morning commute, or taking that call at work (yep, they include hands-free calling).” There are also other reviewers that say you get what you paid for. But $30 isn’t bad for a TWS starter pack. Grab HBQ i7 Twins True Wireless Earphones here.

Padmate PaMu Wireless Earbuds Review Best Knock-Off Headphones

If you’re willing to pay a bit more, a worthy choice is Padmate PaMu earphones. The earbuds aren’t white, but they are weirdly shaped and hang out of your ears. These earbuds rose to fame on Indiegogo. The campaign was successfully completed and orders fulfilled. Now you can grab the disc-shaped earbuds with secure sport fins for $79 off of Padmate’s website. The units are lightweight and the fins keep the buds locked in place. The surface of the discs are fixed with touch controls to pause, play, and skip back and forth between tracks. PaMu TWS buds support a 3.4 hour battery life and ship with a portable charging case that provides an additional 12 hours of playtime. As for sound, Padmate PaMu is heavier in the low end. The bass is also extended so you can really hear the sub-bass, though it covers some of the mids. The highs are present without being overly bright. It’s worth a $79 price tag, IMHO.

Triple Driver In-Ear Monitor (Westone W30)

FiiO F9 PRO In-Ear Headphones Review Best Knock-Off Headphones

Westone W30 is a three-way balanced armature dream. Though the price is more of a nightmare if you aren’t making the big bucks. At $399, it’s an IEM you’d definitely have to save for – or possibly make an impulse buy. A suitable substitute is FiiO F9 PRO. These affordable buds are built with 3 drivers: 2 balanced armatures and 1 dynamic driver. The result is crisp, clear, dry and well balanced sound. The lows are bumpin’ (but not overdone) while the mids have a nice equilibrium (though, they could have a bit more power behind them) and the highs are clear. The cable is also detachable with an MMCX connection so you have the option of making the entire unit wireless, as well. FiiO F9 Pro is $139 and available at Audio46 and Amazon.

Open-Back Planar Magnetic Earphones (Audeze iSine10)

Monoprice Monolith Audeze iSine10 Best Knock-Off Headphones

There are very few open-back earphones on the market. A high-end introductory model coming from open-back experts Audeze will run you $349 (with a 3.5 mm jack). However, one retailer known for their generic-branded consumer electronics decided to make an affordable make of the same open-back planar magnetic earphone from Audeze. Monoprice Monolith M300 looks very, very similar, in that is it is a black conch-shaped housing with vents in the back. The M300 provides “a detailed aural landscape and will resolve all the sonic detail from the best recordings” while providing “spectacular imaging, low distortion, and perfectly balanced sound.” The unit ships along with a carry case, 3 sets of ear tips, 2 pairs of ear hooks, and 2 pairs of inner ear locks for extra security, and a detachable cable. Currently, interested buyers can nab Monoprice Monolith M300 at the lowest price on Amazon.

Wireless Sport/Fitness Earbuds (Bose Soundsport Wireless)

Bose Soundsport Wireless earbuds are a popular pair on the market, primarily for their bassy sound signature (cough… name). These buds run $200 and offer a sweat resistant frame with Bluetooth support and a sport fin to secure the buds in your ears, however a full battery provides a mere 6 hours of music playback. Bummer! A great option that skips the overly bassy lows, for a more balanced approach with a punchy low line is JBL Reflect Mini 2. It supports a whopping 10-hour battery life, a sweat resistant frame, and a sport fin to secure the buds in your ears. This option is $99. You can pick up JBL Reflect Wireless 2 at Audio46 or Amazon.

A little over two years ago, a wooden headphone based out of Japan vowed to deliver quality audio all the while saving the planet with a pair of eco-friendly cans. The company launched a campaign to bring Konohazuk H3 headphones to life, however the campaign was closed later that year. But now, in 2018 the eco-friendly headphones are back and no longer a concept.

After 2 Years, Konohazuk H3 Headphones are Finally Here!

Despite a delay lasting two years, the Konohazuk H3 headphones appear to be the same as the concept that came before them. Comprised of Japanese beech wood found in Iwate Prefecture, Konohazuk headphone is a lightweight and sustainable option for music go-ers. As explained by Konohazuk, the selected wood is perfect for conducting sound and is also used in way that utilizes trees in a sustainable manner. The flexible headband is constructed out of thin sheets of wooden veneer that are gently applied in a curved shaped in order to fit any head size. Every ear-cup is carved precisely on a CNC machine and hand finished and polished. Memory foam ear pads covered in soft PU leather and stitched fabric provide extra comfort for wearers.

Considering almost the entire unit is made out of wood, you might be wondering how comfortable the pair of headphones could be. Besides the ear cushions, the ear cups and headband are connected via a flexible joint that slightly rotates the ear cups to take shape to any head. In terms of aesthetic, the precision cut pieces yield a minimal wood aesthetic that is simple yet polished. P.S. The wood is not polished.

If interested in a sustainable pair of headphones grab them here for $212 USD.
